I don’t know about you guys but I am definitely starting to feel the heat as summer starts to pick up the pace. Oh the joys of summer downunder. It’s time to hit the pool to get some relief I say. Now if only i had a pool [sigh]
If you are one of the lucky ones and have a swimming pool in your backyard, A poolside party might be in the cards for you or your kiddly winks in the near future. If that is the case then here is an easy to follow tutorial to make your own Pool Party invitations that we created a little while ago. We incorporated a bit of both sun and water into these invitations by making a pocket with a sunny yellow base and a topped it with dark blue vellum paper for the watery waves effect.
- Yellow card
- White card
- blue vellum paper
- scissors
- wavy or scallop scissors
- glue stick or double sided tape
- rounded corner punch
First, Print or write your party invitation wording off onto white card. Make sure that you want keep your wording within your required dimensions ours are 2½” x 3½” (approx 6.5cm x 9cm) You can use any software on your computer that you are familiar with like MS Word or similar.
Cut your cards to size and round off the corners with a corner punch
Next up. To make the card pocket cut the yellow base card to be approx 1/2″ larger than your wording insert. Our pocket3¼” x 4½”.
For the top of the pocket cut the blue vellum to be 3¼” wide and 3″ high. To create a wavy effect, trim the top of the vellum with a pair of decorative scissors. If you do not have a pair handy then simply use your regular scissors to cut the waves.
Now assemble the card pocket by applying a thin layer of glue along the left side of the vellum, along the bottom and up the right hand side.
Carefully line up the bottom of the vellum with the bottom of the yellow base card and stick them together.
When the glue has dried you can simply pop the invitation into the pocket. Done & dusted.
For extra brownie points. Punch a hole in the top left hand corner and with some bakers twine you can tie your tag invite onto a pair of swimming goggles or a pool noodle. Ooooh, maybe pick up a bunch of different inflatable toys or water guns to tie your tag too. Lots of water fun to be had.
